Composition
To put it simply, composition is how the elements of a photo are arranged. It's how the artist arranges things within a frame that help a photograph become more or less interesting to the viewer.

Sebastian Magnani- Reflection
Magnani's photographs are of beautiful reflections of nature through a mirror and it tell a story.
He is taking photographs which capture the different moods , lighting and colours in the environment.
Magnani frames his photographs by using a round mirror in the middle of the picture which focus your eye on the center of the picture and helps you compare it to the outskirts of it.
When you look at the reflection and the background of the photographs you can see a dramatic difference in the lighting, in the colour and the texture.
I like his pictures because they tell a story, for example in the second photo I have shown, it shows the desolate bare trees and the abundance of leaves littering the floor.
In my pictures I have placed a mirror onto a plain background. I have shot my images different to him as he places his mirror down on a surface i position mine sitting vertically to the object i want to photograph. By doing this it has created a boundary between the nature that reflects on the mirror and the solid background.

Andy Yeung-Architecture
Yeung's photos are of the architecture and the buildings of Hong Kong city center. Uniquely looking at them from a different angle as if you are lying down and staring up at the architecture.
In his photos Yeung is trying to show a different side of Hong Kong making the environment look beautiful. His images are symmetrical giving a 3d image also giving the viewer a sense of mystery making the person looking at the photograph wonder what is on the other side.
Yeung takes images of similar types of buildings so they look familiar and so they can focus on the light above.
The interesting part of his images are the depth he creates with the different types of buildings against the dramatic sky.
I like the photographs because of the symmetry of them and how they immerse me in the image and make me feel like I am there staring up at the huge buildings.

Since the school is not filled with the same type of architecture as Hong Kong, I had to improvise. In these pictures I have tried to create a contrast between the buildings, light and the sky. I did this by finding a building and take an upright photograph, then I edited it and flipped it or moved it multiple times this was so it would create the same effect as Andy Yeung did.

Romain Jacquet Lagreze - Wild Concrete
Romain Jacquet Lagreze is a photographer who photographs nature overtaking the human and concrete world. The reason he takes photograph is to show how powerful nature is. This shows that no matter how hard humanity tries to repress nature, nature always find a way top break through. His photographs are mostly taken in Hong Kong where he is based, which explains the Chinese buildings he features.. After studying his photos I took 10 photos in his style and tried my upmost best to take photographs that ruminate the originals.
|
In these photos I show the contrast between the concrete man made world and Mother Nature. I did this by taking a photo of nature growing through something that has been man made. I discovered new patterns and texture through the amount of nature inside my photographs making them seem better and more complicated.

Ansel Adams
The way he takes the photograph makes me feel like I am there and a part of his photo Ansel Adams uses a low aperture. Which can include all the surroundings . He used film and shot all his photographs in black and white and i believe has a real sense of beauty. Ansel Adams captures a lot of depth to his images, he places the horizon high in the frame (to make the viewer realize the scale of the image). His photographs are demonstrating the scale of the world in comparison to the man. He focuses on the part he wants the viewer to see.
In this development i decided to think about layering and not what was jus in front of the camera. This was to make the photograph have different patterns as well as having a vary of textures. I feel my photograph as a whole look a lot better and capture the true beauty of nature. By layering and using different perspectives this is not focusing on what was in front of me in some cases of the photographs.

WWW – I used different compositions to frame my image such as rule of thirds and captured my images at different time of the day to varying the light and shadows and thus creating a different mood.
EBI – I would change my iso and adjust the lighting of the image to make it more contrast. |

Minor White
Minor White was an American photographer known for his meticulous black and white prints of landscape architecture and men. Minor White used black and white infrared films. he set up his photographs to help the viewer to find forms of self discovery and spiritual enlightenment. White was inspired by Ansel Adams as well as the natural beauty of the parks that were near him.
. I took the following photographs when i was on holiday in Croatia In these photographs i replicated and immitated Minor Whites pictures of landscape. For most of them i used natural lightening this was to capture the true beauty of the area.

Matt Barnes-petrol station
The reason I Like Matt Barnes project is because of the contrast in colours from the blackness of the night. I like the lighting and how art illuminates the photograph and really shows that it is the center of attention. Therefore catching the person eye and making them focus on every detail in the photograph. He has a very dark, mysterious and isolated mood about his photograph. He achieves this by taking the images of the petrol stations in the dark and show how deserted a place that people may go to in their day to day life is. The reason I chose to do the petrol stations as my development is because when I took this photograph is because it was just before the petrol crisis

WWW: Good lighting to represent the petrol station
EBI: could have been more patient |
The reason I have picked Minor White this is due to how he captures the landscape and captures the landscape around him. He has many different ways in which he takes the photograph as well as nature in foreground for example trees and a singular flower. As well as mostly mountains in the background.
Final development
i tried to take picutres of a petrol station and i was impressed by how good the lighting was that i created.

Development/ edited
The photographer Mart Barnes inspired me to take photos of gas station from the oncoming crisis of the petrol issue. To show how busy but how isolated they could be at the same time. How silent and beautiful a petrol station can be with lights illuminating it at its side. I took photos at a certain angler to then show the different parts of the petrol station. If I had longer id take photos of desolate shops and cafe to show not just all petrol stations on my weebly. I learnt how to edit and change the mood of a piece.
Development
I took pictures of empty places to represent the petrol such as churches and parks and shops these places which are usually full of life and people are empty. This was to Mat Barnes work and put my own ideas on it instead of just petrol stations

EBI: should have taken it at a different time in the day
I edited these by changing the contrast and brightness and contrast as well as saturation to change the pictures to what they are now. They are my favourite pictures because they depict the entire play grounds as well as the entirety of the church giving a real of tense and unique atmosphere .
